Road charge for BIG 625 - Hochtor

A 5 Euro road charge for cyclists is announced for the Grossglockner-Hochalpenstrasse at times between 09:00 and 15:00 beginning on May 1, allegedly for the sake of safety (they say they want to push bicycle traffic towards the off-peak hours!):

I'm always off peak hours anyway :-) - riding in the dark without lights - must be more safe. More important to protest is the "no access" to the Livigno tunnel for cyclists any longer - that is a public road and should be open to all, but is not. Also the road parallel to Grossglockner is not open at all for cyclists (Kaprunertal):

Following the protest of ~2300 people within a few days, the Grossglockner charge is now withdrawn:

Nice! I did sign it also. I did not like the photo they had of two cyclists taking up all the road, but the protest was good. Now maybe you can overthrow the ridiculous rules in Germany of having to use bicycle paths whenever one could possibly be found! (We have similar rules here in Sweden, but the law makes it a bit unclear as one could still use the road if it is believed as more suitable to reach ones destination, so it would nearly never happen that anyone gets a fine here for cycling on the (safer) road.)
