Monte Camoscio Empty
PostSubject: Monte Camoscio   Monte Camoscio Icon_minitimeMon Aug 27, 2007 5:34 pm

I climbed this BIg in 2004 and I remember that at that time there was no gate at all, or it was opened. I did it on my MTB and it was well to do. Steep and short. I have no souvenir of this climb. It was not very interesting. In the neighbourhood there is a climb much more interesting and worth visiting: Refugio Legnano. Beautiful and incredibly heavy.

From François CANDAU
I think that Monte Camoscio needs in MTB to be climbed. I confirm that now two barriers prevent you from climbing. Personnaly I wouldn't advice this BIG to a friend (and biggers are !). But above all, I remind you that we are in a society which is more and more judicial. Let us imagine that one bigger in the future climb Monte Camoscio despite it is now clearly forbidden and has an accident, he might attack BIG challenge saying he had to climb it since it is in the Superlist.
Only for that last reason, I recommend to get Monte Camoscio out of the Superliste even if I consider it was the hardest BIG I ever climbed, the only climb so far where I had to walk along my bike (I climbed Alpe d'Huez, Mont Ventoux, Tourmalet, Aubisque, Marie-Blanque, Hautacam, etc without any difficulty !)

Looking at a picture sent in the website by Xavier Cosials, with an enormous big big stone splashed on the road, I have many interrogations in the head.
But we are crazy guys, aren't we ?

OK, if you want to change it.
I propose to replace Monte Camoscio by Oropa but not by Colle Melosa;

1° because it is not in the same sub-area
2° because it's too close from Colle Garezzo and I believe there is a junction road between the two passes with no real ascent.

The last experiences about Monte Camoscio seem to prove that the
* works in the stony enterprise are increasing
* danger exists with falls of some stones
* difficulty to find the foot
* more and more "forbidden" road-signs
* road disturbed and crashed by falled stones

I suggest to change it.
I suggest to ask to Gabriele Brunetti to give a good alternative next to this climb.
Afterwards, the GIO will approve the change.
